Yama Seafood

911 W Las Tunas Dr
San Gabriel, CA 91776

After hearing about this place so much, I finally decided to head out here to try their renowned sashimi. Upon walking in, the line was all the way to the door, and so we stood at the end. Let the waiting games begin.....

Flash forward an hour and half, we were finally to the front! Since the sushi chef is the only one who can cut the fish... the line gets excruciatingly long and boring. But after waiting 30 minutes, you can't just give up and leave so.... we waited it through. The people in front of me ordered the last of the salmon in the fridge.. and we almost freaked out because we thought they ran out. Thankfully, they didn't, and the sushi chef brought more salmon up from the bottom.

Since I waited so long, I decided to go balls out and order.. everything. I got two of the salmon, a yellowtail, blue fin tuna, and octopus. Total was $61 (including a drink and siracha popcorn) so it wasn't that bad considering the amount and type of food I got. Yes, I was that girl who held up the line.... but hey- I waited my turn! After getting my fish and admiring it, the sushi chef was super thankful and respectful and asked if everything was alright. I guess he thought I was scrutinizing it, but I was just super happy I got my fish!

The fish was fantastic. The salmon was so soft and melt in your mouth, and the yellowtail had great texture- there were two different cuts and both were delicious. The tako was also surprisingly yummy- it was actually our favorite! It was chewy but less chewy than other places and was very fresh.

Last but not least, the blue fin tuna. The blue fin tuna was just as buttery and melt-in-your-mouth as I thought it would be! However, it was also super oily. Seems to be the cheapest cut of blue fin tuna (around the tail area) so lots of oil in that one. It was kind of unsettling, but it was okay. I mean, you're paying $20 for a giant slab of blue fin tuna, so can't really complain especially because it's so cheap.

Overall, great fish market for good quality fish at a cheap price and great cuts. They also have a market offering various snacks and food as well as cut rolls and drinks (including alcohol). If you come with a friend, you guys can switch off walking around and looking at what is offered! Don't come around lunch time, or you will be there forever... starving. So glad I finally got to come here though! Hopefully the line won't be as long next time....
